Combining fire resistance and waterproofing in one system

Combining fire resistance and waterproofing in one system

Eagle Anchor XFR helps builders and contractors address evolving fire requirements without sacrificing installation efficiency.

Wildfire exposure, stricter building codes and growing demand for resilient roofing assemblies are reshaping how contractors approach tile roof installations. To help address those challenges, Eagle Roofing Products developed Eagle Anchor XFR, a roofing underlayment that combines waterproofing and fire resistance in a single-layer system. Designed for concrete and clay tile applications, the product helps simplify installation while supporting compliance with demanding fire-performance requirements.

Eagle Anchor XFR is a mechanically fastened underlayment developed by Eagle Roofing Products in partnership with Polyglass®. Engineered for use beneath concrete and clay tiles, it eliminates the need for traditional multi-layer assemblies by delivering both water protection and fire resistance in one layer. This simplifies installation while reducing labor, material usage and overall system weight.

At the core of the product is a dual-compound construction: a durable plastomeric modified bitumen top layer paired with a self-sealing SBS-modified bottom layer. This design allows the membrane to tightly seal around fasteners, helping prevent water intrusion while maintaining long-term durability.

What truly sets Eagle Anchor XFR apart is its patented Burn Shield Technology®, which provides advanced resistance to wind-driven embers — one of the leading causes of roof ignition during wildfires. Combined with a fiberglass reinforcement layer, the system achieves a Class A fire rating and meets strict requirements for Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) zones, including CalFire compliance.

Beyond fire performance, the underlayment is built for real-world jobsite conditions. Its mineral-surfaced top layer improves slip resistance for safer installation, while its robust construction allows for up to 180 days of UV exposure before tile installation — offering flexibility in project scheduling.

Eagle Anchor XFR also delivers clear economic advantages. By replacing the need for separate underlayment and cap sheet systems, it reduces installation steps and material costs without sacrificing performance. The result is a more efficient, cost-effective roofing system that still meets the highest standards for protection.

In summary, Eagle Anchor XFR represents a smarter approach to tile roofing underlayment — combining fire resistance, water protection and installation efficiency into one integrated solution. For contractors and builders working in high-risk or code-driven environments, it offers a reliable way to simplify systems while enhancing overall roof performance.
