Since 1980, catastrophic weather events have increased tremendously. Hailstorms in particular have caused a significant amount of damage to property owners nationwide. In 2022, insured losses caused by hailstorms exceeded $10 billion. In order to minimize the damage caused by these extreme weather events, roofers across the nation are being encouraged to install resilient roofing systems.
Georgia-Pacific Building Products has released an eBook called “Design for Extreme Weather” where they outline the rise of extreme weather and how to build a resilient roof that will withstand these events. One of the key ways to install a resilient roofing system is by installing products that are built to last well into the future. According to the eBook, “When choosing materials for a roof that can stand up to high winds, heavy rain and severe hail, start with a strong, durable membrane.”
For low-slope roofs, a strong cover board can help create a defense against damage caused by hail and other storms. The eBook suggests DensDeck® StormX™ Prime Roof Board will ensure that a roof is protected from the harshest elements. It is crafted from a noncombustible gypsum core that is reinforced with a durable fiberglass mat. Not only that, but StormX is included in 85% of the total FM Global very severe hail (VSH) single-ply membrane assemblies.
When installing a commercial roof, you’ll want to aim for a limited number of callbacks from your customer. Part of preventing this is by installing high-quality roofing products to begin with. The last thing a building owner wants is to have to call their roofer after a major hailstorm to get their roof fixed again. Keep your customers happy by installing a durable, long-lasting roof system the first time.
