QXO becomes the second largest publicly traded building products distributor in North America

From Beacon to Kodiak to TopBuild, QXO is using strategic acquisitions to simplify customer-supplier relationships.

QXO made waves in the roofing industry back in 2025 when they acquired the building products giant Beacon Building Supplies. And they have not slowed down since! QXO has continued to grow through strategic acquisitions that both “increase earnings per share and provide substantial long-term value for customers and shareholders.”

Most recently, as a part of this strategy, QXO acquired Kodiak Building Products and TopBuild.

Incorporating Kodiak

At the beginning of April 2026, QXO announced the completion of acquisition of Kodiak Building Partners. The deal, which was worth approximately $2.25 billion, expanded QXO’s offerings to include the large lumber operations and solid building product portfolio that Kodiak is known for. It was estimated that this growth expanded QXO’s addressable market to more than $200 billion.

Joe Checkler, QXO spokesman, explained a bit about the reasoning behind their expansion through Kodiak, "Lumber was always part of QXO’s plan, and this gives us entree into that market. Lumber is crucially important because it’s the first point of entry to most projects."

Acquiring TopBuild

In April 2026, QXO announced their intent to acquire TopBuild for $17 billion. TopBuild is known for being the largest distributor and installer of insulation products in North America, in fact they clock roughly 22,000 jobsite visits per day.

For QXO, bringing their operations into the fold represents a step in their plan to strengthen their position in the overall value chain. As their 2026 Investor Q&A explained:

The deal is an important next step in establishing QXO’s unique position for value creation. Beacon brought us scale in roofing and waterproofing distribution, and Kodiak expanded our reach into lumber and general contractor channels. Now, TopBuild brings a best-in-class presence in the insulation space, with well-run installation and distribution operations, installer labor and crew management, scheduling expertise, strong on-time job completion record performance and deep contractual relationships.

Their goals with TopBuild include incorporating them into the cohesive QXO team, addressing customer challenges of supply friction and leveraging TopBuild’s jobsite access to optimize jobsite intelligence across industries.

The larger plan

Both of these acquisitions fit into QXO’s larger growth and value creation plans which focus on simplifying customer-supplier relationships. That 2026 Investor Q&A elaborated on this:

[QXO sees] growth [as coming] from cross-selling, bundled offerings, improved service, enhanced digital tools, CRM capabilities and more systematic use of customer data. We can sell across lumber, siding, decking, windows and doors, insulation, waterproofing and roofing. A key aspect of our value proposition is our ability to maintain sticky relationships with both large builders and smaller local contractors by serving them more completely.

In other words, by bringing building supply companies, like Kodiak and TopBuild, together within one brand, QXO is offering customers one-stop-shopping, faster timelines, broader market access and an overall more cohesive service experience.
