Pushing the industry to new quality standards

Pushing the industry to new quality standards

How the New Brunswick Roofing Contractors Association’s Quality Assurance Observer Training supports industry standards and professional accreditation.

Roof Quality Assurance Observers (Observers), previously known as Inspectors, play a huge role in keeping industry standards high and projects performing well. They are responsible for documenting whether a roof installation complies with project documents and manufacturer standards, and they are also responsible for checking that work against industry requirements.

So, who are these Observers? They are individuals who have completed a basic education seminar hosted by the Master Roofers Guarantee of New Brunswick (MRGNB). The seminar introduces participants to the MRGNB and Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA) specification manuals, observation policies and standards and fire risk awareness. Further, per the New Brunswick Roofing Contractors Association (NBRCA) websites, these individuals must also commit to ongoing education:

Observer workshops are held at least annually to ensure currency with industry developments.  These workshops include modules that assist Observers to attain and retain the skills appropriate for rooftop Quality Assurance Observation consistent with industry, MRGNB and CRCA requirements. As well, the workshops address issues that are being seen in the industry. These issues could be coming from property owner’s perceptive, contractors, or information from the CRCA National Technical Committee which may be surfacing in other parts of Canada and that the Observers should be made aware of.

This might seem like a lot of requirements, but as the ones ensuring that installations stay consistent with design intent and accepted roofing practices, independent observers play a key role in the entire roofing industry’s long-term success.

To learn more about quality assurance observer workshops, course schedules and costs, contact NBRCA at 506-652-7003 or info@NBRCA.ca.
