Kickstarting roofing careers

NBRCA’s training programs provide aspiring roofing professionals with a clear roadmap to success.  

Each province and territory in Canada has its own apprenticeship program, designed to introduce new individuals to the trades and help them get their career started. As Express Employment Officials puts it, “Apprenticeships offer a direct and effective path to a successful future. More than just learning a trade, they are an investment in your skills and a launchpad for long-term growth.” 

To aid in the journey of roofing trade apprentices, the New Brunswick Roofing Contractors Association (NBRCA) has developed two programs related to apprenticeships.  

The first is their Pre-Apprenticeship Training program. This program is organized in partnership with STEPS NB and gives attendees an in-depth look at what a career in roofing is all about. This program is perfect for anyone interested in becoming a roofer. And the best part? Graduates of this program have a direct pathway forward! As NBRCA describes:  

NBRCA Contractors have already committed to hire the participants that have successfully completed this program.  Our contractors feel by your willingness and commitment to further your personal growth, that you have already started your dedication to be one of the best. 

They also offer Apprenticeship Training, which operates under the direction of the Province of New Brunswick Apprenticeship and Occupational Branch and within the umbrella of the New Brunswick Community College. Open to both those coming out of the Pre-Apprenticeship Training and beyond, the program consists of "3 blocks, each running 6 weeks, and 5400 hours of employment in the trade.”  

By the end of the training, apprentices will take the interprovincial exam to become a Red Seal Roofer. For those who pass, they will then go into the employment of the contractor who sponsored them during the training.  

Both of these programs are great examples of how NBRCA and their contractors go above and beyond to support the guidance, training, mentoring and support new roofers need to succeed.
