From concept to reality

Learn about the development of snow retention software that will make these engineered solutions more accessible.

At the 2024 International Roofing Expo, SRS Distribution sponsored the RoofersCoffeeShop® sound stage! During the show, Heidi J. Ellsworth hosted Ben Anderson and Mindy Dalhquist from TRA Snow and Sun. Mindy is a business development manager and Ben runs operations at the company. 

The duo shared insights about the new, innovative software that TRA Snow and Sun is developing. Ben explained, “Design wise, we're working with some new innovative software that you can log in yourself and utilize our testing, our calculations so you can come up with a warranty, a design that is unique for your own roof.” The goal with this online program is to help homeowners and contractors find the right snow retention system for their roof. 

Snow retention works by holding snow on the roof, rather than letting it slide off uncontrolled. Mindy explained why this is important: “Snow eventually slides off the roof if you don't have the right snow retention system. It's a safety mechanism to help protect the property, the people coming in and out and all the items that you spend so much money for on those structures.” This software, which is projected to come out sometime next year, will help people find a unique system that keeps the snow on their roof without damaging it.  

The software builds upon the engineering that TRA Snow and Sun already does for their customers, however, it makes the process far more efficient and accessible. And it’s already gaining popularity – Heidi commented that she’d heard numbers up to the tens of thousands in pre-registration for the program.
