Durability & Sustainability in Metal Roofing

Dupont Tedlar Live at FRSA 2023
August 16, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.

By Adam Cabrera.

Some of the benefits of PVF film is its resistance to corrosion, simple maintenance and recyclability.

The RoofersCoffeeShop® team caught up with Corinne Sheridan, the Global Marketing Director for DuPont™ Tedlar® at the 2023 Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Expo (FRSA). If you're looking to incorporate some new products into your business or have an interest in sustainable roofing, take a moment to hear about Tedlar® and some of the innovative ways it can be used in construction.

"Tedlar® is a polyvinyl fluoride film that DuPont™'s been making for over 60 years," Corinne explains. And it's not just used for metal roofing and siding, it also has a history of being used in aerospace and – though you may not have realized it – can be seen lining the cabins of commercial jetliners.

Corinne went on to discuss the versatility of Tedlar® products. "We do clear films but also do pigmented films that are fairly matte," she says. "We're developing some new finishes that we're excited about."

But what truly sets Tedlar® apart, especially for metal roofs, is its durability. Take for example a roof exposed to tough coastal conditions. With Tedlar®'s protective film coating that roof is guaranteed durability and resistance to corrosion with a 50-year warranty attached. However, if you're worried about maintenance, Corinne points out that, "Tedlar® is very cleanable, and it's a very inert material, so nothing sticks to it." Even graffiti can be washed off the material.

The environmental aspect of Tedlar® is also notable. "Tedlar® is recyclable, so it's a sustainable product," says Corinne. As green practices are becoming the norm across several industries, having a recyclable roofing material can be a long-lasting benefit.

With Metal Roofing Alliance and U.S. Steel, DuPont™ Tedlar® also plans to craft products specially tailored for metal roofing systems. "We're really excited for the future and what it looks like for metal roofing with Tedlar®," Corrine says.

Watch the whole interview on the RCS YouTube Channel to hear more about Tedlar® products and the versatile ways it can be used in metal construction.
