Discover the Benefits of Being a VARP Accredited Contractor

Find out what being an accredited contractor from the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals can do for your career. 

If there’s one thing every contractor wants, it’s to have a good reputation. Without a reputation people can trust, it’s difficult to get work. Being accredited as a VARP contractor can prove to customers that you’re a legitimate contractor who meets highly regarded moral and ethical standards. According to the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals (VARP), “If a contractor has received the designation of VARP Accredited Roofing Contractor, it means that VARP has determined that the contractor meets accreditation standards that include a commitment to standards of honest and fair dealing, excellence, continuing education and safety.”  

To become a VARP Accredited Roofing Contractor, the applicant must adhere to the set of standards established by the Better Business Bureau. This includes:  

• Building trust 
• Advertising honestly  
• Safeguarding privacy 
• Being transparent  
• Being responsive 
• Embodying integrity 

Becoming a VARP accredited contractor requires you to build up credits. A recent webinar on electronic leak detection is a prime example of how to earn a VARP accredited credit.  

The webinar covered Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) testing methods used for roofing and waterproofing membranes. Participants learned about the principles outlined in the ASTM Standards and were able to identify compatible assemblies. The presentation met AIA education standards and was co-sponsored by VARP and Detec Systems. Shaun Katz presented and shared his 20 years of experience in customer service, sales and business administration. Participants learned about the differences between electronic testing methods, ELD capabilities and limitations, potential future design and construction failures, and different applications for fully monitored embedded leak detection systems. 

Establishing a good reputation is crucial for contractors. By becoming a VARP Accredited Roofing Contractor, contractors can prove to their customers that they meet high ethical and moral standards. Attending events such as the recent webinar on electronic leak detection can also help contractors earn credits towards their accreditation and enhance their knowledge on the latest industry standards and practices.
