Roofing professionals can strengthen their understanding of roof assemblies and prepare for upcoming code changes during two educational sessions.

Roofing professionals looking to expand their technical knowledge can join the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) for Education Day following the Western Roofing Expo in Las Vegas. Scheduled for September 30, 2026, from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. PST, the event will feature education focused on roofing fundamentals and changes coming to international building and energy codes.

The first session, “Roofing Practice Series: Roof Assemblies - Fundamentals,” will explore the history and evolution of roofing practices. Attendees will learn key roofing terms, examine common roof assemblies and their components and review how water, vapor and heat move through roofing systems. The program will also connect roof design strategies and component choices with moisture protection, energy performance, code compliance, costs, occupant comfort and climate resilience. This session has been approved for three IIBEC continuing education hours and three AIA learning units in health, safety and welfare.

The second session, “Changes to the I-Code 2027 Edition,” will examine significant updates to the International Code Council’s 2027 codes. Attendees will explore differences between ASHRAE 90.1-2025 and the 2027 International Energy Conservation Code, along with trends in code development and the fundamentals of the ICC code development process. The course has been approved for 1.5 IIBEC continuing education hours and 1.5 AIA elective learning units.

Registration is $295 for IIBEC members and $450 for non-members. By pairing foundational roof assembly education with information about upcoming code changes, Education Day offers industry professionals an opportunity to stay current on the technical considerations shaping roofing design and performance.
