Learn about the Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors Association and how they uplift and support the roofing community.

The Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors Association (SRCA) was founded in 1963 with the goal of serving as “a forum for members and their customers to express, discuss and resolve problems, concerns and issues related to the commercial and industrial roofing industry.” Today, they continue to pursue that same goal, as reflected in their updated mission statement: Delivering roofing knowledge to construction professionals through real world experience and value-added solutions.

To keep their operations aligned to this goal, SRCA has broken that mission into five clear value statements:

They strive to be the main voice for roofing professionals in their area (Saskatchewan).

They aim to provide their members with the resources (training, information, technology, etc.) needed for those members to uphold the “highest quality of roofing practices and business ethics in the roofing industry.”

They want to encourage the prioritization of safety in the industry.

They work to create an industry-focused forum for members and the general public to discuss concerns and issues related to roofing.

They hope to enhance the entire roofing industry in Saskatchewan.

In line with the values that the association holds themselves accountable to, they also hold their members accountable to a code of ethics. This code emphasizes that “membership in the Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors’ Association is the obligation to conduct corporate business activity and to encourage and support Association action which will promote the advancement of the roofing contracting industry in Saskatchewan, the welfare of members, their employees and the Association and, in the final analysis, the provision of quality work.”

How does SRCA ensure that their members are fulfilling their pledge to support the code of ethics and the overall betterment of the roofing industry? They run a compliance training program that all members must attend. Overall, this program ensures that all members are on the same page, working towards the same goal.

From apprenticeship support to charitable giving, the association invests in both the roofing industry and the communities its members serve.

The Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors’ Association (SRCA) supports the province’s roofing industry through membership, education and industry involvement while extending that commitment to communities through charitable giving. Membership is available to qualified businesses and individuals across five categories: active, associate, industry, international and honorary members. Active members are Saskatchewan firms engaged in roofing and related sheet metal contracting, while associate membership is available to companies that manufacture or supply materials, equipment or accessories for the industry. Other categories provide opportunities for individuals interested in industry information, contractors operating outside Canada and people recognized for distinguished service to the association’s objectives.

Beyond membership services, SRCA participates in programs designed to strengthen the roofing workforce. Its involvement includes the Saskatchewan Roofing Apprenticeship Program and the Roofing Apprenticeship Bursary. Apprentices employed by an active member who successfully pass the Journeyperson's exam receive $500, with an additional $500 awarded to the apprentice who earns the highest marks on the interprovincial exam.

The association also offers a $1,000 SRCA Post Secondary Scholarship to selected applicants whose parent or guardian works for an active member. Additional industry and community involvement includes support for Habitat for Humanity through member donations of materials and labor, along with membership and committee participation in the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association, Saskatchewan Construction Association and Trade Advisory Board.

Community support also extends through charitable giving. Each October, the SRCA board of directors reviews requests from charitable organizations in the communities it serves. The association supports local nonprofit organizations and individuals through financial contributions and in-kind services that meet its charitable giving guidelines.
