Monday is when things get really busy with a stacked schedule of more than a dozen education sessions. Here’s our shortlist of must-attend sessions from this day:

• Roofing Trends That Matter: RoofersCoffeeShop®’s own Heidi J. Ellsworth will be presenting about roofing trends! This presentation will give attendees valuable insight into where the roofing industry has been and where it’s moving towards.

• Using AI in Roofing Estimating: John Kenney of Cotney Consulting Group shares insight into the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in roofing operations, specifically related to estimating.

In addition to those education opportunities, Monday boasts two luncheon options, three demonstrations and the much-anticipated Roofer’s Feud event. Here’s a bit about those options:

• Luncheons: there are two lunch learning opportunities on Monday. One is for Spanish-speaking professionals and features Victor Maya (Advantage Roofing, GAF) discussing how to maximize commercial roofing claims. The other features Craig Brightup (WSRCA political correspondent) and Chad Collins (chairman of the National Roofing Contractors Association board) as they give a political update.
• Demonstrations: as we mentioned, there are three demos on Monday. The first kicks off at 1:30 p.m. is hosted by Polyglass U.S.A. The second (which starts at 2:30 p.m.) is from TAMKO Building Products and the last demo of the day is at 3:30 p.m. and features Johns Manville.

But wait, there’s more! Hit the ground running on Tuesday with breakfast and table talks with the National Women in Roofing team at 7 a.m. (please note, additional registration of $55 required for this event). • The Cost of Disconnection: for this Spanish-language session, Monica Vornbrock of the GLO Group dives into how post-sale breakdowns are costing contractors customer trust and revenue.
• Designing Durable Cold-Climate Roofs: in this session, Mindy Dahlquist of TRA Snow and Sun explores the role of snow retention in designing roofs in cold climates.
• Escaping Reactive Service: the last session on our shortlist is Tracey Donels (Service First Solutions) talk about creating predictable business growth through service offerings.

And just like on Monday, there are two options for lunchtime learning and some can’t miss events:

New single-ply, insulation and waterproofing systems support the manufacturer’s strategy to protect all six sides of the building envelope. 

Polyglass highlighted an expanding portfolio of roofing and waterproofing solutions during the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) expo, including its official entry into the U.S. single-ply market. Lynn Connors, director of strategic marketing at Polyglass, joined Heidi J. Ellsworth to discuss the company’s new products, manufacturing investments and “seal the envelope” strategy. 

“We are officially launching our Mapeplan® PVC product solutions,” Lynn said. “So, we’re officially in the single-ply market now.” The technology has been manufactured and installed by Polyglass’ sister company in Italy for more than 15 years, providing experience that the manufacturer is now bringing to the U.S. market. Polyglass also introduced its Polytherm® line of polyisocyanurate insulation and recently expanded its insulation manufacturing capacity in Nevada. 

The additions support Polyglass’ goal of offering compatible systems for the entire building. “That strategy is really aimed at providing all six sides of the building performance solutions,” Lynn said. “Our goal is to be your choice as the industry experts in coming to us to help you protect all six sides of the envelope.” 

Polyglass also featured fire-rated and high-wind systems designed for extreme weather environments. Its Polystick® XFR product incorporates patented Burn-Shield Technology® and can help achieve a UL Class A assembly under certain metal roofing systems with a single ply of XFR, compared with traditional three-ply underlayment approaches. Additional systems address high-velocity hurricane zones and other demanding applications. 

Contractors at the show could see how these products work together through demonstrations that developed over time and presented the systems in real-world conditions. The approach emphasized vulnerable transitions, including roof-to-wall, wall-to-deck and deck-to-below-grade connections. Polyglass supports those transition areas through its Seal the Envelope™ warranty, which covers material and labor when Polyglass products are used throughout the specified system.

Reducing ignition risks by specifying roof assemblies that meet Wildland-Urban Interface requirements. 

As wildfire risks increase across the United States, contractors must consider how roofing materials, complete assemblies and installation practices contribute to building resilience. In this article, Polyglass highlights that in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas, where development meets undeveloped vegetation, roofs can be exposed to wind-driven embers, radiant heat and spreading flames. 

Fire-resistant roofing is not the same as fire-proof roofing. No roof is completely immune to fire. Instead, fire-resistant materials and assemblies are tested to withstand defined levels of external fire exposure. Contractors should look for systems classified under UL 790 or ASTM E108 and verify that the entire assembly meets applicable requirements. 

A Class A fire rating provides the highest level of protection against external fire exposure, including flame spread and ember penetration. However, the classification applies to the complete tested assembly, not just the visible roof covering. Underlayments, attachments and installation details all contribute to system performance. 

Polyglass addresses these challenges through Polystick XFR and Polyanchor XFR, which feature Burn-Shield Technology®. The proprietary fire-resistive layer is designed to block ignition from wind-blown embers and debris while supporting waterproofing performance on steep- and low-slope roofs. 

Building codes are another important part of wildfire preparation. WUI provisions can influence material selection, installation methods and the use of combustible components. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, making it essential for contractors to review the International Building Code, International Residential Code and local amendments before specifying or installing an assembly. 

Selecting tested systems and following jurisdiction-specific requirements can help contractors reduce liability, avoid rework and deliver stronger protection in wildfire-prone environments.

How to determine whether restoring a roof with coatings is a viable alternative to a full replacement. 

When a roof begins showing signs of age through rust, sagging, leaks or moisture-related issues, building owners may assume replacement is the only option. However, not every aging roof needs to be torn off and replaced. According to this article by Polyglass, if the structure remains sound and underlying damage is limited, a roof restoration coating system may offer a more efficient and cost-effective path forward.  

Roof restoration works by reinforcing the existing roof membrane rather than removing it. By retaining the current roof structure, building owners can extend roof life while avoiding the expense, material use and disruption associated with a full replacement. Cool roof coatings can also help reduce rooftop temperatures, contributing to improved thermal efficiency and occupant comfort. 

The decision to restore or replace depends on the condition of the roof. Coatings cannot address major structural issues such as a rotting deck, extensive water damage or severely deteriorated roofing materials. Before any coating project begins, the roof’s insulation should be dry, damaged seams or surfaces should be repaired and the drainage system should be functioning properly. In all cases, a qualified coatings professional should assess if the roof is a good candidate for restoration.  

Understanding coating types is another important part of the evaluation process. Acrylic coatings are water-based, applied in multiple coats and compatible with many roof systems. They provide weather and ultraviolet (UV) protection while helping maintain a cooler roof surface. Silicone coatings offer a more durable solution, with strong resistance to standing water, moisture vapor penetration and UV exposure.  

Whether acrylic or silicone is selected, performance depends on the complete system. Primers, reinforcements and proper surface preparation all play a role in promoting adhesion and long-term results.
